VR Immersive Experience (2018)
How can we turn the music on in the library? That’s simple. Drop a marble into a Rube Goldberg machine and blame on it. Through this experience, viewers can be immersed in this antique library with intricate contraption for unexpected dynamics which eventually leads to hit the needle of record player.
Rube Goldberg was a cartoonist, he created a concept of this machine that uses a chain reaction to accomplish a very simple task in a very complicated manner. For Rube, his inventions were a way of seeing the humor in everyday situations, and he loved that his work made people laugh. Using this whimsical concept, I created this humorous experience with various dynamic effects such as seesaw, gravity, domino, and collision. Viewers would concentrate and follow each objects’ movement and how they finally are able to play the music.
To create mesmerizing experience, cozy and antique style of library interior was built and old jazz music was selected to increase the mood. Camera movement was also an essential part: developed visibility of each object’s movement so that viewers would appreciate the complexity of the contraption and find humor.
